Snooker is Back. And Bristol's Kids Are Leading the Charge

"It feels like it's calling my name."

– Elliot, junior player at Maxi Lounge

The parents have been just as surprised as anyone. One mum told us her youngest isn’t a natural team sports player, and finding somewhere he could be part of a community while developing his own individual skills has been a revelation. Another put it simply: they’re off electronics, they’re talking to each other properly, and they’re absolutely loving it.

That’s what this is really about. Yes, snooker is a sport. Yes, it’s a skill. But it’s also a reason to get out of the house, be social, and have a laugh with your mates or your siblings, without a screen in sight!!

We also had a pretty special visitor drop in recently. Six-time World Champion and now proud Bristol resident Steve Davis came down to see what all the fuss was about. His verdict? “These players are better than on the telly.” High praise from a legend of the game.

Steve made a point that stuck with us. There’s a perception in some quarters that snooker is fading in the UK, but he was having none of it. The game is growing worldwide, TV audiences are bigger than ever, and what’s happening here at Maxi Lounge is proof that the demand has always been there in the South West, it just needed somewhere to go.

We’re proud to be the first proper snooker hall to open in this area in around 30 years. The Southwest has been quiet for a long time, but not anymore.

If you’ve got kids who are curious, bring them down on a Wednesday. Who knows, as Steve put it himself, this could be where the next Judd Trump comes from.

Come and try it out

Junior sessions every Wednesday at Maxi Lounge, Yate. All ages from six upwards welcome.
